ABOUT SGV-NCNW
San Gabriel Valley Section of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (SGV-NCNW) is a volunteer organization, chartered June 6, 1990. Its vision is to support and sponsor programs that provide human care, health and educational services to African American women and their families in the communities served by SGV-NCNW. Focus on delivering services in education, community outreach, youth development, as well as health and wellness, has been consistent for many years. SGV-NCNW is most proud of its impact and influence on our youth and their development, educationally and socially.

Caltech has a rich history of scientific and technological innovation, contributing significantly to advancements in various fields of STEM. As part of its mission, Caltech is dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusivity in STEM education and research. The
Caltech STEM Scholarship reflects this commitment by supporting talented individuals from underserved backgrounds, mainly focusing on empowering black youth to pursue their academic and career aspirations in STEM disciplines. Any Black, African American or BIPOC undergraduate student may apply for this scholarship.

The SGV-NCNW & Caltech STEM Scholarship Fund was established to provide financial assistance, support, and encouragement to students pursuing studies in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM).
Criteria:
Undergraduate students of African descent/Black or BIPOC may apply.
Undergraduate students must be residents of California attending college. Attending college outside of California is permitted.
Families, friends, and referrals of SGV-NCNW members are eligible to apply.
High school graduates or undergraduate students who plan to attend or are currently attending a four-year college (university or private college) or community college and major in STEM during the 2024-2025 academic year.
A GPA minimum of 2.5 or better.
Students demonstrate leadership, volunteer service in their church and/or community.
Proof of current class registration.

Essay #1: Personal STEM-related essay. State why you are interested in pursuing
education in a STEM-related field. How do you envision contributing to or advancing
STEM education and innovation in your community? (250 words minimum)
Essay #2: Describe any extracurricular activities, volunteer work, or experiences related
to STEM that have influenced your academic and career goals. (250 words minimum)
One (1) letter of recommendation (professional)
Proof of college registration (official school course schedule)
