About Us

• San Gabriel Valley Section of the National Council of Negro Women (SGV-NCNW) is a volunteer organization chartered June 6, 1990, in La Puente CA. 
• Service area includes cities within the San Gabriel Valley but not limited to Pasadena/Altadena, Azusa, Baldwin Park, Covina, Hacienda Heights, La Puente, Rowland Heights, Valinda, West Covina, Diamond Bar, and Walnut.

​Mission and Vision

• Mission: To educate, empower and advocate for underserved families. 

• Vision:  To support and sponsor programs that provide human care, health and educational services to African American women and their families in the community.

​Focus

• Delivering services in education, community outreach, as well as health and wellness. 
• Known for sponsoring and/or hosting a variety of fundraising events specifically in support of its donation and sponsored programs.

​Youth Development

• Most proud of a membership of young people known as Young Legends.  Having the Young Legends as members enables us to have direct impact and influence both educationally and socially.

• Math tutoring program has been sustained for many years and continues to remain successful.

• Back to School backpacks and supplies for students
• Math tutoring for students (1 - 12 grades)
• Toiletries and warm blankets for homeless women, men, and children
• Baby/toddler clothing for infants
• Resources for families relocated to domestic violence shelters
• Disaster relief (water) to flood victims in MS
• Mental health and wellness resources and seminars for women
• Assistance to grief stricken families
• Food baskets for needy families during the holidays

​SGV-NCNW is committed to serving the community. We will sponsor and support programs that provide human care, health, and educational services to African Americans and other underserved persons.  We will implement programs that reflect cultural and ethnic diversity and respond to the social needs of families. SGV-NCNW is committed to sustaining a volunteer program that maximizes our members' capacity to be loving, caring, creative, morally and spiritually sensitive to all persons.
